Unit 1- Identity
Thursday 22th September
Started with a Drama lesson, where we worked in the theater to get used to our surrounding for the upcoming performance of "Identity" , as well as gave us a overview of where our voices need to be for the live performance. We played different games such as It! as well as a new game for me called Famous person which consisted of someone leaving the room acknowledging that they are a famous person but they don't know what famous person they are yet, once returning into the room all the other members of the room begin going up to the now famous person and either complimenting them or giving horrible comments to then the person has to guess who it is.
Friday 23rd September
Day began with another blog session to continue our blogs as well as improve them, after a hour of doing that we went to our drama lesson where we spent the rest of the lesson doing activities such as describing our partners facial features without looking as well as when both partners talk about what they are going to do for the weekend and who ever stops first to listen losses, we finally played a game called mafia which helped our improv skills.
Monday 26th September
Continued writing our blogs, drama next where we began working on our piece of identity. We started this by everyone getting into three groups and then someone from those groups would pick a piece of paper which had a one of the ideas for identity written on it, next we would do a scene based off of that idea, for example my group had background so we decided to do a detention scene and a really smart girl who everyone calls the "nerd" shows up so all the other kids are shocked and surprise as she's meant to be really good and so someone asks her and then we go into another scene showing her background i.e. her life at outside of school at home. Unfortunately we ran out of time we improve the scene and add the other characters backgrounds.
Tuesday 27th September
In drama we began with the opening of the production by all sitting in chairs but hey were lined up side by side and we each had to write what identity meant to us we then swapped the papers around and had to read them all out individually. Next we got back into the groups we did the background work with and improved it by linking another school scene with our one, making it into one big whole detention scene.
After drama we then moved onto a movement class, which included us first dancing with a partner like ball room as well as working on developing our movement skills, next we had to do a activity of portraying a famous character and replicating their known actions for example I did Charlie Chaplin so then me and my partner would then portray Chaplin's movements. After that we then went on to do some stretching exercises allowing us to improve our flexibility, we then moved on to do some core workouts.
For the production lesson I missed out as a accident occurred involving my head which got my sent home.
Thursday 29th September
In drama we continued to work on our identity pieces, where each got the chance to work with our teacher to link all of our plays together to link it all together to make one whole play of 'Identity', we also confirmed how we are going to put the set all together in a quick but none messy way.
Friday 30th September
Continued on our blogs.
Monday 3rd October
Advanced on our blogs as well as improved them, had a tutorial lesson where we got taught the different rights and conventions of the European Union and had to pick 4 rights which stood out to us a person, next we got into groups of 4 and had to pick 4 rights out of 12 which stood out to all of us, we then had to explain the rights we picked and the reasoning behind it.
After those two periods we had Drama where we worked on our Identity piece, we mainly worked on the beginning of the play like the cues to go into the next scene or for someone to talk etc. For the ending of the play we had decided for everyone to say "I am human none the lesson" in English as well as in different languages like German, Spanish and Italian. This was decided as a way to promote culture and equality as well as diversity into the name of Identity.
Tuesday 4th October
We did two run through of 'Identity' whilst advancing it whilst going through it such as movement, voice exaggeration and gestures. We decided to exaggerate the whole of the play as before it was too naturalistic i.e. like Eastenders so we needed to make it something different too amaze the audience. After doing those two run through we performed it in front of the Level 3 second year students of what we had done so far, when the performance finished we all got really good feedback as well as told us how we could improve it.
Next we had a movement class, where we continued to rehearse our performance expect Mandy helped us do the exaggeration part as she would stop us throughout and tell us to make our movements bigger and bigger which I liked as it helped me know how to exaggerate better, we also looked at a scene where it showed sexist stereotypical views on the male and female gender such as for girls we had portray us putting on makeup thoroughly and for boys cheering at a football game we then linked them together with a happy ending.
In production lesson we developed our essays about our roles in the theater.
Thursday 6th October
In drama we focused on improving the finale bits to our pieces for 'Identity', we finally got to the stage of a run through where we included our bodily movements and language as well as spacing from the help of Mandy.
Friday 14th October
Today we had our performance for Identity and it went really well and I think everyone did good. Before we performed the play though I did have a lot of issues during the rehearsals as some people would lead the class which I didn't like as there was a teacher there to help us get through it not that person but I worked through it by ignoring that person and their comments. My strengths during the performance was my voice as I am a naturally loud person I didn't have a problem with projecting my voice so the whole audience could hear me but I did have a problem with my exaggerated gestures as I am used to doing naturalistic acting that I forgot to exaggerated.
